Dear Huffman ISD parents and faculty:
This is a community health alert regarding the rising number of flu cases in the state of Texas.
Signs and Symptoms of the flu can include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, chills, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea (which is more common in children).
Huffman ISD fever policy reads (page 60, student handbook): if your child has a fever over 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. Please contact attendance and communicate current signs and symptoms including fever history.
Steps you can take to protect your family against the flu and the spread of illness: 1.) Stay home when you have symptoms of illness. 2.) take time to get a flu vaccine. 3.) wash your hands often with soap/water 4.) cover your nose mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing – then throw away the tissue & wash your hands. 5.) avoid close contact with sick people. 5.) Clean/disinfect surfaces.
We hope this information and helpful tips will help keep your family flu free this season.
