Welcome to English I. This year we will be working on developing our writing abilities, reading comprehension, and learning how to become productive and effective high school students. We will be reading one complete novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, and will be reading excerpts from The Oddessey, Romeo and Juliet, and The House on Mango Street. These will all be done in class, with very few exceptions.

Our literacy goal is: Progress Not Perfection!
Writing is messy, reading can be difficult, understanding can be downright hard, but we will get there. This year we want to take you from wherever you are and improve upon it. We want to be ready for anything they throw our way in tenth grade.

It is very important to be aware of how we do things in this class. In order to come to tutoring, request make-up work, or schedule a retest, you must complete the online form listed in itsLearning. Keep in mind that any and all work is accepted or declined at the teachers' discretion.

Cell phone policy: Cell phones are not allowed in class. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to have them, we have laptops and dictionaries to use for any information we may need. If there is a situation in which you need to be contacted, parents/guardians NEED to go through the front office. You will receive a warning and be asked to pouch the phone; if you refuse you will be sent to the office. If you are warned and it happens again, it will be taken to my desk, and any future infractions will be sent to the office.

If we learn to follow the rules quickly, this year will be a breeze! I am so thankful to be back in my hometown, working with some of the best people I have ever known. If you have any questions, PLEASE feel free to contact me. I am expecting nothing but the best from this year, and I think we can accomplish just that!
