GPA Exempt Information

To encourage students to participate in upper level electives and allow them to explore interests that align with their post-secondary goals, Hargrave High School will allow high school students to apply for a GPA exempt option for certain courses they take throughout their high school years.  Courses taken as GPA exempt will be excluded from the GPA calculation and class rank.  The GPA exempt application must be submitted each semester (fall and spring).

  • WHAT IS GPA EXEMPT?
    • Student may choose to exempt a course from their GPA that is NOT one of the following:
      • 16 core classes (4 math, 4 science, 4 social studies, 4 English) →anything above this is eligible
      • First PE credit 
      • First Fine Art credit
      • 2 LOTE credits
      •   The grade earned in the class will not be calculated in the student’s GPA, it will be exempt from it.
  • GPA EXEMPT INFORMATION
    • Students may request up to 5 full credits or 10 semesters of GPA exempt courses
    • Students must submit the GPA Exempt application, found in their class Canvas page, for each course requested.
    • Once the GPA exempt form is approved, it may not be reversed
